Spring 2009

Welcome to the new year!! I’m not alone in feeling excitement about the start of 2009 & the promise it holds for our country & the global community.

On a professional level, I’ve been hard at work. 2008 was filled with Caswell Sisters Quintet concerts at colleges, universities, & venues like Jazz @ Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, Sara Caswell Quartet performances on stages like Symphony Space, & solo appearances w/ the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall. Scattered throughout were performances with Gene Bertoncini, Bucky Pizzarelli, Madeleine Peyroux, & Mark O’Connor’s American String Celebration, among others. It was also a busy year of teaching, both through Manhattan School of Music’s Precollege Program, the Mark O’Connor string camps, & Jamey Aebersold’s Summer Jazz Workshops.

Building on this momentum, 2009 looks to be an exciting year…

• I’m most thrilled about the long-overdue Caswell Sisters CD Rachel & I are recording this spring with friend & pianist Fred Hersch. Stay tuned for updates...

• As in 2007 & 2008, I’ll be a featured soloist on the soundtrack for the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks with the New York Pops. You may even see me performing my solo live on NBC that night!...

• Listen for releases by bassist Ike Sturm & singer Janis Siegel, two amazing musicians whose projects I was part of…

• I’m excited to be teaching for the inaugural Mark O’Connor String Camp in NYC & Strings Institute @ UCLA ~ register early!...

For a complete listing of upcoming concerts & workshops, check out my 2009 itinerary. And watch this space for updates on our Caswell Sisters CD project, as well as other noteworthy news. Finally, stop by my MySpace & Facebook pages to say hello!
